On recent work parties we have been clearing along the stretch after the current terminus, just past bridge 62 in preparation for the next phase of restoration. This area is now looking fantastic compared to before and we are now in a much better place for the contractors to begin work in the not too distant future. Thanks to everyone that has helped with this task.
For this next work party we will be working just past this area but this time the need is not one of clearance but one of safety. As you may be aware we have recently completed the footpath between Snarestone & Measham, however we have identified a number of small areas that are still less than optimum for walking along as they can get really very boggy and can leave your footwear quite muddy when the weather has been wet. This requires work to level out some of the troughs that are present from when large plant vehicles have previously churned up the wet ground and then to lay some MOT hardcore over the surface and compact it down, leaving a much more friendly surface for people to walk across whatever the weather.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities to come along and give us a hand, have an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers and find out what we have planned for the future. Give as little or as much time as you can spare. We will be around most of the day but you don’t have to stay for the whole day unless you want to.
You are welcome to bring any suitable tools that you may have although we do have some tools available for use of our own if you do not. It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear. It is very muddy along the area where we will be working so please bear this in mind.
It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We intend to provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
