Back in November we cleared the overgrowth from around the internal border of the site at Ilott Wharf and then planted some new saplings to fill the gaps where some that we had planted there a few years ago had failed.
Now that Spring is here and things are beginning to grow again it is important that we return to the site and trim back any early unwanted growth in the surrounding area before these saplings become once again taken over by the rapidly growing brambles etc.
We are hoping this year to be able to focus more on several smaller, easier trimming sessions rather than the usual big “wow, that took over quick” mammoth brush cutting session that always seems to be needed by the time we get to check on it.
If you have not volunteered with us before we welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities to come along and give us a hand, have an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers and find out what we have planned for the future. Give as little or as much time as you can spare. We will be around most of the day but you don’t have to stay for the whole day unless you want to.
You are welcome to bring any suitable tools that you may have although we do have some tools available for use of our own if you do not.
It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear. It is sometimes very overgrown in some areas where we work so please bear in mind there may be a lot of thorns/stingers etc so take necessary precautions.
It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We intend to provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
