Earthworks and landscaping in our newly acquired field

When: Sun, July 20, 2025 from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm Where: Snarestone Wharf, Quarry Lane, Snarestone, Leicestershire DE12 7DD Contact: Arran Jenkins Contact Email: volunteer@ashbycanal.org.uk Open Volunteer Spots: Unlimited

As some of you will already know from various posts on Facebook etc we have recently acquired part of the adjacent field at Snarestone Wharf that has been until now used for cattle grazing. The main purpose for this acquisition is to provide increased car parking for visitors to the Wharf, but other additional uses may be possible later on after some grading (it is a sloping field on the most part).

What we require help with initially are the groundworks to provide a gentle gradient into and out of the field for vehicles and people, work to provide a flat, wide area suitable for parking (crushed stone will eventually be used for surfacing) and associated landscaping. You don’t need to be 6ft and built like a builder to help, there will be tasks available for people of all ages & abilities.

It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear.

It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We will provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own in addition or should you prefer.

As always we look forward to seeing some new faces and catching up with old friends.

Meeting at Snarestone Wharf at 09:30am with a view to commence work around 10:00am. Stay as long or as little as you can spare the time for. All help is appreciated no matter how small.
