Footpath overgrowth maintenance

When: Sun, May 14, 2023 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Where: Snarestone Wharf, Quarry Lane, Snarestone, Leicestershire DE12 7DD Contact: Arran Jenkins Contact Email: volunteer@ashbycanal.org.uk Open Volunteer Spots: Unlimited

It’s that time of year again where nature tries to reclaim the world from us and everything goes on a massive growth spurt. This means that a number of parts of the footpath that we have established are now becoming a little overgrown.

The worst of these areas, as usual is the stretch in Measham along the former railway line from the area past the old station/museum then heading down towards and under the Horses Lane bridge and along to the old railway embankment.

This is a very popular route for local dog walkers as well as it soon officially being opened as part of our footpath between Measham & Snarestone, so since nobody likes getting their legs stung so we need to deal with this ASAP.

It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear. It is sometimes very overgrown in some areas where we work so please bear in mind there may be a lot of thorns/stingers etc so take necessary precautions.

It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We intend to provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.

As always we look forward to seeing some new faces and catching up with old friends.

Meeting at Snarestone Wharf at 10am for a 10:15 departure to the site.
