The area of unrestored canal that runs between the site of the future aqueduct that will cross the ‘Gilwiskaw’ brook and along past the rear of the houses at ‘Bosworth Grange’ and down towards the current terminus near bridge 62 is known within the ACA as the ‘Gilworth’ site.
We have some contractors that will soon be doing some earthworks on site at Gilworth to help raise the levels that were dropped due to the historic mining subsidence and to grade the area in preparation for the next phase of restoration.
In order to protect the safety of the public that are making use of our new footpath or the adjoining public footpath it is important that we install some temporary fencing to keep them away from the dangers of heavy machinery etc and therefore that is the goal of this work party.
We have some metal ‘Heras’ fencing that we intend to fix to metal rods that we will insert into the ground. We need to move the fencing from where it currently sits over to where it is needed and then install it so your help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have not volunteered with us before we welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities to come along and give us a hand, have an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers and find out what we have planned for the future. Give as little or as much time as you can spare. We will be around most of the day but you don’t have to stay for the whole day unless you want to.
You are welcome to bring any suitable tools that you may have although we do have some tools available for use of our own if you do not. It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear. It can be very muddy around the area where we will be working so please bear this in mind.
It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We intend to provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
