Earlier in the year we cleared the overgrowth from around the internal border of the site at Ilott Wharf and performed a survey of the saplings that we had planted there a few years ago.
We identified a number of gaps where the saplings had not taken or were damaged. Although we were able to save a number of them where they just required some help to put them straight etc there were still many areas where it was evident that more saplings would be needed to fill the gaps.
Due to the Woodland Trust only offering saplings at certain times of the year we had to wait until now to be able to receive any. They are due to arrive within the next few weeks and as such it is necessary that we visit the site beforehand and clear any overgrowth that has developed over this summer. We would very much like and appreciate your help performing this task.
If you have not volunteered with us before we welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities to come along and give us a hand, have an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers and find out what we have planned for the future. Give as little or as much time as you can spare. We will be around most of the day but you don’t have to stay for the whole day unless you want to.
You are welcome to bring any suitable tools that you may have although we do have some tools available for use of our own if you do not.
It is advisable to wear suitable clothing for whatever the forecast is on the day and also to wear sensible footwear. It is very overgrown in some areas where we will be working so please bear in mind there are a lot of thorns/stingers etc so take necessary precautions.
It is a good idea to bring yourself a packed lunch and any other refreshments that you will require. We intend to provide hot drinks but you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
As always we look forward to seeing some new faces and catching up with old friends.
Meeting at Snarestone Wharf at 10am for a 10:15 departure to the site.
