Towards the end of last year we were lucky enough to receive some funding from the National Forest to pay for a group of professionally organised volunteers (The Conservation Volunteers) to come along and provide us with 4 or 5 days of assistance. We used their help to clear a good portion of the overgrown sections of land where we are establishing the new footpath between Snarestone & Measham, most notably the section at Measham that runs from the old railway station and runs along the old railway embankment.
Although they did a great job of clearing this area in doing so they had to chop away a number of small trees that had began to grow in the way of the path. Unfortunately this has resulted in quite a number of small stumps being left sticking very slightly out of the ground which are difficult to see but could be quite a painful trip hazard.
This work party will seek to dig around these, chop them off below ground level and then cover them back over with earth, therefore removing the hazard.
Anyone with experience in this area or who has suitable tools will be especially welcome. If you do have your own tools then please bring them along but we do have a small number of tools available for those of you who don’t.
Where we will be working it is very easy to spread out and so anyone still with concerns relating to social distancing should have no problems in doing so and it will be a great opportunity to get outdoors and do something rewarding.
Please bring your own refreshments and wear suitable footwear etc.
Meeting at Snarestone Wharf for 10:00am, leaving for Measham site at 10:15am.
